Reinstatement of Lithuanian citizenship
Lithuania become a member of the European Union in 2004. This affords Lithuanian passport holders visa-free travel within the European Union – and numerous other destinations including the United States, Canada and Australia. This makes Lithuanian citizenship very appealing today.
Individuals may be eligible to apply for citizenship if they were citizens of the Republic of Lithuania between 1919 and 1990, and lost their citizenship as a result of acquiring any other foreign nationality.
Such persons, and their descendants within three generations, may acquire Lithuanian citizenship by reinstatement. We advise on all aspects of citizenship by reinstatement. This also includes the acquisition of statutory documentation to support the application – from the Archives in Lithuania or the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa.
